During the New Moon, the Seer arrives to inaugurate the Lunar Festival. She prepares the ritual hunt, extruding toughened bristles of blood from the pores of the most courageous survivor. They sprout to form a crest that stretches over the survivor's back, head, and obscures their face. Unrecognizable, the survivor resembles a strange appendage.

For fortune’s favor, the survivors must pull the crimson hairs from the crest and offer them to the joyful Seer. For each fistful of crimson hair, she tells them stories. The cries of the crested survivor are drowned by the raucous mob as they chase them through the settlement, yanking, pinching, and frequently mauling. Although she never returns, the survivors continue to celebrate the new moon festival, sewing pelts of dyed fur into the skin of their chosen.
