The settlement watch fasts intermittently, their cavernous hunger keeping sleep at bay. Drinking only the fermented dilution of frenzy drink, their hollowed eyes scan the dark for signs of movement. 

Furloughed watch members carve the strange hairy swirling patterns that float before their straining eyes into the watch lanterns.
